really cute treat of the week: how about a picnik?

Friday, January 28, 2011 | | 0 comments
Let's start by stating what may be very obvious. We know we're late to the party - or at least we think we might be. Let us introduce you to our new favorite treat - and it's a treat - Picnik! We were first introduced to Picnik by Michelle at Three Men and a Lady (Thank You Michelle!) last week and we fell in LOVE. Picnik is an ABSOLUTELY FREE online photo editing website. We know, we know, you have Photoshop. We have it too. But Picnik takes the guess work out of editing your photos which is usually what keeps our photos in our cameras. With Picnik just click a few buttons and you're done. It is FANTASTIC! And, you don't even have to create an account. How about that!

So we spent the weekend playing with our favorite new FREE toy. Check out some this before and after transformation using a photo taken at Walt Disney World (Hi Dad!)

Here's the before:

And the after using the Lomo-ish setting (one click ... seriously!):

Pretty cool, huh? Makes you want a Mickey Mouse Bar, doesn't it?

And, Picnik takes the stress out of making a photo collage too! Just drag, drop and voila ... collage!

So, whether you have photos you've been meaning to edit because you don't have hours to spend at the computer, or if you just want an excuse to take some photos and play, check out our treat of the week ... Picnik!

To be very clear, Picnik didn't pay us a single cent to tell you how much we love their site ... and they didn't need to. Come on, something that's Free, that doesn't make you register, and that practically edits your photos for you ... like they need us!

a super trip to dallas

Thursday, January 27, 2011 | | 0 comments
As you may know, this time next week sports fans will be descending upon our fair city of Dallas. Our usually calm big small town is being over taken by Packers and Steelers fans and actors and rock stars and television crews from all over the world. It's the Super Bowl and those of us that call Dallas home will hunker down, avoid the malls, and be thankful that we don't have to go near the stadium.

Since people from Texas are known for their hospitality, we've decided to re-share some of our favorite things to do in Big D. After all, if all of these visitors are going to be here, they might as well know the fun things to do!

First up, where to stay. If you don't already have a room by the stadium you're probably out of luck. Our advice, head to the suburbs. They're your best bet. Frisco and University Park are going to be two of your best bets. With lot to do and plenty of restaurants, you'll have plenty to do before the big game.
What to do in the days leading up to the big game? If you aren't going to one of the jillion parties around the city during Super Bowl week, head to Dallas' shopping mecca ... Northpark Mall. Northpark is the perfect mixture of mall and museum with sculpture and works of art everywhere you look. Want to play a little "Where's Waldo"? Look for one of our favorite works - a Teddy Roosevelt done by none other than Andy Warhol. With every store you could ever need, a ton of dining options, and a FAB movie theatre, you could spend an entire day at the mall and not see everything. Enjoy!

And finally, our top pick for dinner. You really can't go wrong with dining in Dallas but our very favorite (and our dinner last night) is Celebration. Located near Love Field Airport on Lovers Lane, Celebration is home style cooking at its best. Sides are served family style and everything is ALL YOU CAN EAT. We know what you're thinking ... all you can eat?! But it's not what you think. It's like your mother made all of your delicious favorites and then told you you could have more ... with white table cloths. And the yeast rolls ... you could live on those alone. Seriously.

So, to all you sports fans planning your trip to the big game, check out some of our favorite places and have a fantastic time while you're here. We only have 1 request for you. It's supposed to be in the 70s here this weekend. Please leave your cold weather at home!

a few months away

Monday, January 24, 2011 | | 2 comments
Because it's Monday - and because it's winter - and because it seems like it's never going to be warm again - we decided it was appropriate to show you this.

No, we're not posting this photo to be cruel, or to remind you what you don't have. We're posting it to remind you that the snow will melt, you will be able to take those cute sandals out of the closet, and before you know it you will be complaining about how hot it is.

So, when you need a little reminder that there is hope, take a look at this. A little slice of paradise ... only a few months away!

Happy Monday!

really cute treat of the week: fuchsia fever

Friday, January 21, 2011 | | 0 comments

This week's treat is something that will instantly change your look. Right now we are loving Revlon's Nail Enamel in Fuchsia Fever! It's a purply-pink color that doesn't look crazy and adds the perfect pop of color to a dark winter wardrobe. Are you a neutral type of girl? We're also loving taupey-gray colors like Gray Suede! The best part? You can find Revlon Nail Enamel ANYWHERE! Drug store, grocery store, box store, if you live in a town you're likely to find Revlon at one of your regular stops. And the cost ... less than $5! So no matter the color you pick, treat yourself to a new bottle of nail polish. You deserve a treat - and what better treat than some freshly painted nails?
Happy Friday!

hitting a high note: our gift to mariah

Thursday, January 20, 2011 | | 0 comments
Earlier this week we told you about the celeb gifting we were lucky to be a part of to two fab expecting celebs. None other than Rachel Zoe and ... Mariah Carey! That's right, the super diva, songstress has some Really Cute Stuff! But what to send?

Every mom - no, every woman we know - is constantly jotting down notes - reminders of things to do, lists for the store, notes for the babysitter, or just doodling while on the phone. And what better than something super cute (and personalized) to jot on? We decided that Mariah and Rachel needed notesheets in acrylic holders. Then we had to decide what pattern they needed. While it was hard to pick the perfect thing for Rachel (read about the "Zoe Pack" here) there was never any doubt what was perfect for Mariah - LEOPARD PRINT!

Can't live without your own Mariah inspired notepad or acrylic? Click Here! Put in the notes section that you want the Mariah and we'll give you the same font and color (hot pink) that we gave her. Be your own celeb! You're worth it!

ba-na-nas: our gift to rachel zoe

Tuesday, January 18, 2011 | | 1 comments
Recently we had the pleasure of gifting to two of our favorite celebrity moms to be. And who were the lucky celebs, you ask? None other than the fabulous Rachel Zoe - we know, "ba-na-nas"! And who is the other celeb? She'll be revealed later this week.

So, what do you do for a super fab stylist known for her super fab style? We knew that we wanted to gift her with a set of notesheets in an acrylic holder. Come on, an acrylic holder is clean and modern and fab - just like RZ herself. But which of our fab patterns? We went back and forth for several days - would she like damask? Maybe leopard print it is big this year! What about something mod? And then it came to us. Why not a little of all of it. So we put together something extra special that we're lovingly calling "The Zoe Pack". It's 1/3 leopard print, 1/3 damask and 1/3 mod diamond all with a unifying font and color.

We hope RZ loves it as much as we love her. Seriously, we die!

Do you want your own set of notesheets in acrylic just like Rachel? Click Here!

really cute treat of the week: pentel pens

Friday, January 14, 2011 | | 1 comments
Let us take a minute to introduce you to one of our favorite new things - the Pentel Color Pen Fine Point #S360. They come in a variety of fun colors (light green #111 pictured below) and aren't super skinny. Speaking from personal experience, they also make your grocery list a lot cuter! And what do these little bundles of goodness cost? Only $0.94 on the Pentel Website! That's right, less than $1! Not patient enough to wait for the mailman to deliver? Check out your local specialty store - the one that has the wall of fun pens - it may cost a little bit more money but it will be worth it.

Join us next week as we introduce you to another of our favorite treats costing less than $10 - because treating yourself to something fun doesn't have to cost a lot!
Happy Friday!

the cobblers children ... or being unexpected

Thursday, January 13, 2011 | | 0 comments
This year the cobblers children almost didn't have shoes this Christmas ... wait, that's not right. What we mean is that we were so busy filling orders for other people (thank you so much!) that one of us almost didn't have Christmas cards this year! Luckily we found the time - just in the nick of time!

So, 20 something sent out these cards in a non-traditional Christmas color scheme - Hot Pink and Lime Green. The cards were simple and really let the cute fonts and fun message stand out (and yes, those fonts are coming to you in 2011). The envelopes were lime green with a hot pink mailing label (printed with coordinating font) and the return address was stamped in hot pink on the back.

And what's the point of this post, you ask? No, we're not asking you to start your Christmas planning now - though if you're that good we say go for it! We just wanted to share a little something cute and to remind you that sometimes an unexpected color combo will really make you stand out!

Happy Thursday!

Really Cute Awards Show Contest: Golden Globes Edition

Tuesday, January 11, 2011 | | 0 comments
It's that time of year again ... awards show season! If you're like us then you probably love sitting down on a Sunday evening (in your sweats, of course) with some delicious food (we LOVE Chinese Take Out) to watch all of the beautiful people in Hollywood get dressed up to receive awards. More than anything, we tune in for the fashion!

And, since the stars shouldn't be the only ones to win awards, we've put together our own awards based contests. For the Emmy Awards this fall we had a contest allowing people to guess the winners at the Emmys. The person that guessed the most winners correctly won a prize. Since that was so fun, we've decided to bring it back! Join us the week of each of the major awards shows - Golden Globes, Grammys, Oscars - for the Really Cute Award Show Contest. Guess the winners of the major categories for each show and the person that guesses the most winners correctly wins a prize. It's that simple! We'll be giving away a prize for the Golden Globes Winner, the Grammys Winner, and the Oscars Winner. And the person that guesses the most winners correctly for all 3 awards shows wins a Big Prize! Don't want to play but still want to win? Leave a comment and we'll put you into a special drawing!

So, without further adieu use the form below to enter the Really Cute Awards Show Contest - Golden Globes Edition NOW! Entries close on Sunday Morning, January 16th at 10:00am Central Time and the Winner will be announced on Monday Morning, January 17th! Good Luck!

really cute treat of the week: uber cute matches

Friday, January 7, 2011 | | 0 comments
In honor of the New Year (woo hoo 2011!) we've decided to bring a new feature to the Really Cute Blog. Join us every Friday in 2011 for the Really Cute Treat of the Week. How do we decide on the Treat of the Week? It has to be something we love, and it has to cost $10 or less. We think it's important to give yourself a little treat every once in a while but we also think you shouldn't have to spend a lot of money to get something you love. Do you have a favorite treat you want to share? Send us an email ... we may feature it one week!

And now, we're thrilled to introduce you to our very first Treat of the Week! It's getting cold here in Dallas - we're expecting SNOW this weekend ... yikes! So, it only makes sense that this week's treat is something to keep you warm and toasty ... and cute! We LOVE these matches by Lilly Pulitzer. The super cute matches (the ends are pink) come in super cute Lilly printed boxes. A box of fireplace matches cost $9.95 and a box of regular matches cost $4.50. Need a little treat for someone else? A cute box of matches and a candle ... we'd love a gift like that! Don't have a Lilly Pulitzer store in your neck of the woods? You can find the matches online! Just head to the Lilly Pulitzer website or visit the folks at Amazon. After all, doesn't everyone deserve a little cuteness when they're warding off Old Man Winter?!

Happy Friday!
